        Introduction to Game based learning

What is the difference between Game based learning and Gamification?

Why use Game based learning or gamification in your teaching delivery?

As Mary Poppins said “a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down”. In other words, the game helps and motivates to complete tasks which are, in theory, not so interesting. This principle also applies when we grow up, and it encapsulates the recent success of educational games for adult learners.   While the word “games” suggest childish connotations, games in the adult education context will be used to effectively help learners engage with their content and aided with an element of fun.

Game based learning is an active learning technique where games are used to enhance student learning. Here, the learning comes from playing the game and promotes critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Game based learning can be accomplished with digital or non-digital games and may include simulations that can allow your adult learners to experience the learning first hand.

In a game-based learning environment, users learn new concepts and practice skills in a risk-free setting. Their progress in the game is directly related to their understanding of the subject being taught.

ACTIVITY: Watch this YouTube from experts at ``Gamify`` to find out some useful examples of gamification in action and big-name brands that use this approach in business!
